Configuring LPs and LAN Cards

Local MAC Address

is a MAC address that will override the universally administered MAC address. If all
zeros are specified, the universal address will be used.

LAN ID

identifies the ring number used by a frame relay-compliant source-route bridge at the
other end of this PVC. The value is normally assigned by a system administrator.

Each LAN ID must be unique within the network on which this node will
operate.

PROTOCOL.INI

The PROTOCOL.INI file contains information that identifies the type(s) and operating
parameters of any installed LAN card(s) in an FRX8000 Switch, ICP, or INM. You
can create a Node LAN Card Configuration Report, which contains the PRO-
TOCOL.INI information from one or all FRX8000 nodes in the network. This report
can be displayed, printed, or saved to a file for later use.

The file CONFIG.SYS also contains defining information on LAN cards.
The contents of this file can be found in the (optional) Netlink FRX8000
Maintenance Guide.

To create a PROTOCOL.INI report:

1. Press

[E]

at the Reports Menu

(or

[G], [E]

from the Main Menu).

2. When prompted, enter the ID of the desired node, or press

[Enter]

to specify the

default of

All Nodes

.

3. You will be prompted:

One line of PROTOCOL.INI, Bindings = “nnn,” can be read to easily identify the
installed LAN cards, as shown below.
