Configuring Node Records
5-5
You can change
Alternate NMP Node
on line by performing
Change Alternate Node
:
1. Press
[B]
, then
[B]
, then
[A]
from the Main Menu.
2. Enter the ID of the node whose alternate you want to change.
3. Enter the ID of the new alternate node.
4. Press
[F3]
once to return to the Node Operations Menu or three times to return to
the Main Menu.
7000 Node
must be
Y
if the node is an N7400 or N7500, and
N
if FRX8000. Before changing a
Node record from N74/7500 to FRX8000, contact your Cabletron representative to
discuss required hardware upgrades.
After changing the value for
7000 Node
, you must change the
LP Type
in Line Pro-
cessor records for all LPs in the node, since the software differentiates between N7000
and FRX8000 RLPs. N7000 RLPs are type
6
, and FRX8000 RLPs are type
7
.
If any ports in the node are configured as
PDN Trunk
(N7000) or
Logical Trunk
on
physical X.25 (FRX8000), these Port records must also be changed. The two are
equivalent, but are created differently. The logical trunk is defined entirely in one
PDN Port record in the N7000, but in two records—Logical Trunk Port and under-
lying physical X.25 Port—in the FRX8000.
Be sure to change the necessary records or the affected LPs and
ports will not operate correctly.
Node Type
depends on the setting for
7000 Node
:
7000 Node
=
Y
7000 Node
=
N
0
= N7400 with attached NMP
0
= FRX8000 Switch with attached NMP
1
= N7400 with no NMP
1
= FRX8000 Switch
2
= N7500 with attached NMP
4
= FRX8000 ICP or INM
3
= N7500 with no NMP
4
= N7500-ICP or N7500-INM
2nd Alternate NMP Node
is the node that will take over if the Alternate NMP Node goes down. (This option
exists only for node types
1
and
3
.) If the 2nd alternate node also goes down, the ICP/
INM with the lowest node ID of all operational nodes in the network will take over.
Level “n” Primary Node
is an ICP, INM, or NMP that will receive alarm messages with severity level “n”
(1–4) (see
page 21-1
) from this node. Alarms are routed to printers as follows:
●
Node type
0
or
2
sends its alarms to the printer at the attached NMP.
●
Node type
1
or
3
sends its alarms to its
Alternate NMP Node
.
●
Node type
4
sends its alarms to its printer (if present).
●
Alarms from any node type are also printed at one or two ICPs, INMs, or NMPs
specified as
Level “n” Primary Node
and
Level “n” Secondary Node
.
