Chapter 9
Configuring X.25
Ports configured as physical X.25 support connections to X.25 DTEs or to an X.25
network. Ports configured as logical X.25 support logical X.25 links over a physical
frame relay port.
Required and Optional Configuration
To run X.25 in an FRX8000 Switch or N74/7500, make sure the following are cor-
rectly configured in the database:

Network Defaults , described in Chapter 4. This file must be configured for a
new network. After that, no further changes are generally necessary.

Node parameters , described in Chapter 5. A record must exist for every
FRX8000, N7400, and N7500 on the network.
●
Line Processor , described in Chapter 6. A record must exist for every LP in
every node.
●
Trunk (Chapter 7) or frame relay (Chapter 8) port(s) that will connect to the
network and/or PVC(s).
●
X.25 Port , described on page 9-2. A record must exist for every port on every
LP in every node. Each X.25 port’s record will identify the port and define its
operating parameters.
●
Closed User Groups (CUG), described on page 9-11, if the feature will be used.
●
Modem Initialization record , described on page 9-12, if the (RS-232 physical
interface only) port will be connected to a V.25bis modem.
●
Subscriber IDs , described on page 9-14. This file assigns called and calling
addresses to serial ports, and defines alternate routing paths.
●
PVC connection , described on page 9-18. This record creates a “permanent”
connection between two X.25 ports in different nodes. The FRX8000 also sup-
ports async-to-X.25 PVCS (described in
Chapter 13 ) and IP-over-X.25 PVCs
(described in Chapter 14 ).
●
Telephone number , described on page 9-27, if the port will be connected to a
V.25bis modem.
