Remote N7500 DPPM

Updating an N7500 DPPM node involves performing an

All Software Update

,

downloading three single files, and performing a remote IPL of the node. If the node
has an attached monitor, a local re-IPL must also be performed at the node at some
convenient time, to enable access to the performance display.

1. After selecting

All Software Update

, enter (when prompted) a node ID or press

[Enter]

to specify all nodes.

File names will be displayed as the files are downloaded. When the operation is
finished,

Download is complete

will be displayed.

2. Press

[Enter]

to return to the

Boot Disk Download Operations Menu

, then

press

[E]

to download a single file.

3. When prompted, enter the destination node ID.

4. When prompted for a source file name, type

dos/UNSYS.EXE [Enter]

.

5. When prompted for a destination file name, type

unsys.exe [Enter]

.

6. When notified that the download is complete, repeat steps 2–5 twice, the first time

downloading source file name dos/newstart to destination file name

UNSYS.EXE

,

the second time downloading source file name dos/start to destination file name
start.new.

7. When the last download is complete, press

[Enter]

to return to the Boot Disk

Download Operations Menu, then press

[R], [B]

to re-IPL the remote node, which

will load the new software.

If the remote node has an attached monitor, its performance display screen will not be
accessible until the node has been rebooted locally. This should be done at the earliest
convenience, following these steps:

1. While the node is operational, press

[Alt] [F3]

.

2. At the

UNIX

login prompt, enter your login name and, if requested, password.

3. At the

[NETLINK]

prompt, type

kill -9 -1 [Enter]

.

4. At the

UNIX

login prompt, press

[Alt] [F1]

.

5. At the

UNIX

login prompt, enter your login name and, if requested, password.

6. At the

[NETLINK]

prompt, type

start [Enter]

. When the node is able to commu-

nicate with the network,

Remote N7500 NMP Node and NMP

Updating an N7500 NMP node involves performing an

an attached monitor and keyboard). Updating the node's NMP involves performing an

, copying two single files using the Transfer File operation (not the

Single File Update

), then performing some operations at the remote NMP.

Software is downloaded to an N7500 NMP node and its NMP in separate operations.
For both, some steps are done remotely, and some must be done at the site. Perform
the remote parts for both node and NMP first, then finish both at the site.
