Chapter 13
Configuring Async Pads
The integral Async PAD function in the Netlink FRX8000 allow asynchronous
devices to connect to a frame relay or X.25 network.
Required and Optional Configuration
To run a port as async in an FRX8000 Switch or N7400/7500, the following files must
be configured in the database:

Network Defaults , described in Chapter 4. This file must be configured for a
new network. After that, no further changes are generally necessary.

Node parameters , described in Chapter 5. A record must exist for every
FRX8000, N7400, and N7500 on the network.
●
Line Processor , described in Chapter 6. A record must exist for every LP in
every node.
●
Async PAD Profile , described on page 13-2. The profile defines the operation
of attached async devices. The same profile can be used on more than one PAD
port, so it might not be necessary to create a new one.
●
Login parameters , described on page 13-9. This record, necessary if login by the
async device operator will be required, defines a password to be used when
logging into the FRX8000.
●
Async PAD Banner , described on page 13-10. This record specifies text that
will be displayed at the top of any async terminals connected to FRX8000s on
the network.
●
Port , described on page 13-10. A record must exist for every port on every LP
in every node. Each async port’s record will identify the port and define its
operating parameters.
●
Subscriber ID(s) , described on page 13-17. These records assign called and
calling addresses to port, and define alternate routing paths.
●
Abbreviated address(es) , described on page 13-19. This feature allows short
“nicknames” to be assigned to subscriber IDs, to ease entry of addresses.
●
PVC connection , described on page 13-20. This record creates a “permanent”
connection between two ports in different nodes. Async-to-async PVCS and
async-to-X.25 PVCs are supported.
