f. To move the record (copy it to another record and automatically delete the
original record), press
[F6]
and enter the requested information. The record will
be moved, and a
Database change
message like that in option “
d
” will be
printed.
You cannot move a physical port’s record to a logical port, or vice
versa.
g. To send a Port record update to the port’s node (without disrupting node
operation), press
[F7]
. You will be warned:
Update will disable port/LP
.
Continue?
Press
[Y]
(or
[N]
if you change your mind). (You can abort the
operation after it starts by pressing
[F3]

h. To change a value, enter the letter preceding the entry, then enter the new
value. The database will be updated, and a
Database change
message like
that in option “
d
” will be printed.
Note that an entry preceded by an asterisk cannot be changed, because
that entry is part of the key to the record.
Master Status
“Database Master” status is a mechanism for assuring concurrence throughout the
network. A copy of the database resides in each FRX8000 ICP and INM, and each
N7000/FRX NMP. For the network to operate properly, all copies must be identical.
To assure this, database changes can be made only at the INM/NMP that currently has
master status. Any change will then immediately and automatically be distributed to
all other operational INMs/NMPs on the network (unless the network has become par-
titioned—see “
Partitioned Network ” on page 3-12).
How to Get Master Status
Any FRX8000 INM or NMP on the network can request master status. If you attempt
an operation that requires master status and your INM/NMP is not master, you will
be asked:
Request master status?
Press
[Y]
; depending on the status of the current
master, one of these will happen:

If master status is available (not being used), your INM/NMP will become
master and be admitted to the operation.
●
If another INM/NMP is performing an operation requiring master status, your
request will be denied. Press
[Enter]
and try again later.
●
If the master is down or in another part of a partitioned network, you will be
asked:
Initiate Elect Master procedure?
Press
[Y]
. Master Status will then be
assigned to the INM/NMP with the lowest node ID currently running in “your”
part of the network.
Press
[Enter]
. When asked:
Request master status?
, press
[Y]
; your INM/NMP
will now become master.
When you leave an operation that requires master status, your INM/NMP will retain
master status until another INM/NMP requests it.
