A value of greater than 100 simply gives this more weight compared to the allocation
values configured for other trunk traffic.
Do not change the values for
BAG Param 1
and
BAG Param 2
without first discussing the reason with Cabletron Systems Tech-
nical Support.
Window Size
is the maximum number of unacknowledged packets allowed from the source DTE to
destination DTE PPM application.
Retransmit Count
is the number of times an acknowledgment is requested (by retransmitting the packet)
if the acknowledgment timer (see next item) has expired without receipt of a packet.
Ack Timeout Bias
is used to set a value for the acknowledgment timer. After a packet is sent, the Ack
timer is started. If the timer expires before the packet has been acknowledged, a
recovery procedure is initiated. The software computes the Ack timer value by reading
a smoothed average of the measured round trip time (RRT), a smoothed average of the
standard deviation of RRT, and the Ack Timeout Bias.
A low Ack Timeout Bias allows for quick recovery of missing packets at level 3, but
does not allow much time for error recovery by level 2 trunk protocol. A low bias
(e.g.,
5
) is recommended or fast trunks. A somewhat higher bias can be used for
standard trunks over reliable lines. A high bias (e.g.,
10-15
) should be used for standard
trunks over noisy lines, to give level 2 enough recovery time.
Local Ack Timeout
is the maximum period of time the node will wait to acknowledge a request. If the
request is acknowledged before this time runs out, the acknowledgment will be
embedded in the packet; otherwise, it will be sent in a separate packet.
Resequence Timeout
is used when a source node has more than one path over which to send packets to a
destination node. If a packet arrives out of order at the destination node, it is held until
either the proper packet arrives or the timeout occurs.
DB Maintenance Security
turns the database maintenance password prompt on or off. If security is on, either the
database maintenance or high-level operations password must be entered to gain
access to
Maintenance
or
Initialize File
operations.
Low Speed Trunk Balancing
causes the node software to consider all parallel trunks when balancing a load. (See
“Parallel Trunks” on page 7-1.) The software does not normally consider any parallel
trunk that is less than half the speed of the fastest parallel trunk. Unless necessary, do
not enable this parameter.
Upgrade in Progress
is used during the migration of a Nucleus 7000 network to Release 5.0 from an earlier
release. (Release 5.0 is necessary for N7000 compatibility with FRX8000.) If the
network has Release 5.0 and pre-5.0 nodes, this parameter must be set to
Y
. Once all
