Alarm Messages
Message Format
Messages are printed and displayed in a format similar to this:
* 45 980121 162832 (Node 5) (LP 0 Port 1) Backouts enabled from Node 10
where (in this example):
*
identifies the alarm as severity level 3. Level 2 alarms are
preceded by two asterisks, level 1 by three asterisks.
45
is the message number.
980121
is the date (January 21, 1998).
162832
is the time (4:28:32 PM) (the time at the ICP/INM/NMP where
the alarm report is being generated or reported).
(Node 5)
is the node from which the message originated. This is not
displayed for all messages, and will be displayed only if the node
is different than the one displaying the message.
(LP 0 Port 1)
is the LP and port from which the message originated. Frame
relay messages will include a DLCI. If the message originated
over an IP interface, the interface will be identified here instead
of a port.
Backouts enabled from Node 10
is the text of the message.
S and C
Some messages appear with the letter
S
or
C
following the message number.
These stand for
Set
and
Clear
, and indicate that the state described in the message
has been entered or exited. Set and Clear are used with alarms that report
threshold changes or link activity that might be repeatedly reported if such a
mechanism is not used.
The alarms that actually use
Set
and
Clear
are link error activity (
181, 182, 197,
198
) and Statistics warning levels (
304–332
). Ignore
S
and
C
if they appear with
any other alarms numbers. Many alarms, once set, will not be cleared, but will
instead be “replaced” by other alarms that report changes in status. Examples
are link transition (
57–60, 400–406
), PVC status (
111, 118, 119, 215, 216
), and
connectivity transitions (
107, 108, 224, 225, 228, 229, 248, 249, 299, 300, 367, 388
).
