1. Format one or three 3½-inch 1.44MB diskettes for MS-DOS version 5.0, and
make one bootable. To do this, insert the diskette into drive A and, at the DOS
prompt, type
format /s [Enter]
. The remaining diskettes of a three-disk set do not
need to be bootable, so they can be formatted by typing
format [Enter]
.
2. Label the diskette(s) as noted at the beginning of this section.
3. Press
[C]
at the Node Operations Menu (or
[B], [B], [C]
from the Main Menu).
4. When prompted, enter the ID of the node for which the disk is intended.
5. You will be prompted:
(u)pdate configuration
or
(c)reate disk:
Selecting
u
will copy only the configuration files, while
c
will create a complete
installation set (FRX8000) or boot disk (N7400). Type
u [Enter]
or
c [Enter]
.
(Default is
u
).
6. When prompted to specify a diskette drive, type
x [Enter]
or
y [Enter]
, where
x
and
y
are the equivalents of drives A and B.
7. When prompted, insert the Node Update Disk, System Disk 1, or Boot Disk and
press
[Enter]
. If creating a Node Update Disk or Boot Disk, go to step 9. If creating
an installation set, go to step 8.
8. Insert System Disk 2, then the Protocol Disk, when prompted. (Each disk will take
6–8 minutes to copy the necessary files.)
9. When the operation is finished, press any key (when prompted) to return to the
Node Operations Menu.
10. Remove the diskette from the drive and label each disk with identifying infor-
mation such as the node number and software release number.
11. Take/send the diskette(s) to the node site.
12. The next step depends on the node and disk types:

Node Update Disk into an FRX8000 – insert the disk into the node and switch
it on, or press
[Ctrl] [Alt] [Del]
to reboot if it is already on. The necessary
files will be copied to the node’s disk. When finished, remove the diskette
and press
[Ctrl] [Alt] [Del]
to reboot.
●
Node Update Disk into an N7400 – insert the disk into the node and switch it
on, or press
[Ctrl] [Alt] [Del]
to reboot if it is already on. The node will start
and become operational.
●
System and Protocol Disks into an FRX8000 – insert System Disk 1 into the
node and switch it on, or press
[Ctrl] [Alt] [Del]
to reboot if it is already on.
The necessary files will be copied to the node’s disk. When prompted,
insert
System Disk 2, then the Protocol Disk. When finished, remove the diskette
and press
[Ctrl] [Alt] [Del]
to reboot.

Boot Disk into an N7400 – insert the disk into the node and switch it on, or
press
[Ctrl] [Alt] [Del]
to reboot if it is already on. The node will start and
become operational.
