is a CCITT recommendation that defines the procedures for exchange of control infor-
mation and user data between a PAD and a packet-mode DTE or another PAD.

XPAD

is an integral (to an FRX8000 or N74/7500 node) transparent PAD. It can be used to
network any SNA device that can be networked using any of the other SNA PAD
types. It can be considered a fully transparent PAD for synchronous protocols;
however, it is not intended for this use, because special application programs would
have to be resident on the host.
