Appendix C
Passwords
Besides the
Async PAD Login password
(see page 13-9) there are several others:
●
The “root” password – specified during UNIX software installation, is used to
enter maintenance operations outside the FRX8000 software. Each INM and
NMP can have a different root password.
●
The login password – specified during UNIX software installation, protects the
NMP from unauthorized use. It must be entered each time a system operator
logs on. Each INM and NMP can have a different login password.
●
The database maintenance password – is used to gain access to configuration
database
Maintenance
or
Initialize File
operations (the high-level operations
password will also work).
This password is required only if database maintenance security is
enabled in a hidden menu used by system administrators.
This password is network wide. It can be changed, as described under
“Changing Passwords“on
page C-2
.)
●
High- and low-level operations passwords - protect portions of the database and
certain network operations from unauthorized access. For example, you need an
operations password to perform maintenance operations outside the NMP menu
level.
●
These passwords are network wide. Either password can be used whenever an
operations password is required, except when performing
Initialize File
or
Maintenance
in Configuration Database operations or

operations, where only the high-level password will work. Both can be changed
using
Change Passwords
.
●
The computer interface password – protects the network from unauthorized
access to the Computer Interface Process (CIP). It can also be changed with
Change Passwords
.
●
The line monitor password – protects the network from unauthorized access to
the line monitor utility present in all nodes. It can also be created or changed
with
Change Passwords
.
●
The remote control password – allows the operator at an INM or NMP to take
control of a remote FRX8000. The operation can also be used to take control of
the local node attached to an NMP, for the purpose of accessing the local line
monitor.
