Required and Optional Configuration
To run IP in an FRX8000 Switch, you must configure the following files in the node's
database:

Network Defaults , described in Chapter 4. This file must be configured when a
new network is set up. After that, no further changes are generally necessary. If
IP will run on any FRX8000 nodes, an IP Network Address must be configured
in this file, as described on
page 14-3 .

Node parameters , described in Chapter 5. A record must exist for every
FRX8000, N7400 and N7500 on the network. IP-specific configuration is
described on
page 14-3 .
●
Line Processor , described in Chapter 6. A record must exist for every LP in
every node. IP must be installed onto one RLP in each node that will support the
protocol. It does not matter which RLP contains IP, since although the software
will reside on one RLP, it will be available to other interfaces in the node.
●
Frame relay (Chapter 8) or X.25 (Chapter 9) port that will connect to the
network.
●
Subscriber ID , described in Chapter 9, for any X.25 IP interfaces.
●
LAN cards , described in Chapter 6. These records identify any Ethernet or
Token Ring cards in each node.
●
IP Interfaces , described on page 14-4. These records define operating param-
eters and identify addresses for each IP interface.
●
Static IP routes (if desired), described on page 14-8.
●
PVC Connections , on page 14-10. A record is necessary if you want to create a
permanent virtual circuit (PVC) to carry IP over X.25.
