Configuring Group Send Groups
Group Send is a feature that allows a subscriber to broadcast a message to a group of
subscribers by sending a single Call Request. (Once the call is established, this is a
one-way transfer of data.) A Group Send record is composed of a Group Send ID and
Subscriber ID; the Group Send ID is created in another file, Group Name.
To create a group name, press
[F]
, then
[C]
from the Connections and Routing Paths
Configuration Menu (or
[A], [F], [F], [C]
from the Main Menu). When prompted, enter:
●
Group Send ID
:
0000-9999
(default =
0
).
●
Description: up to 24 characters. (This will be displayed in the Group Send
record following the Group Send ID.)
To create a Group Send record, press
[F3]
(if necessary) to exit the Group Name oper-
ation. Press
[G]
, then
[C]
from the Connections and Routing Paths Configuration Menu
(or
[A], [F], [G], [C]
from the Main Menu). When prompted, enter:
●
Existing
Group Send ID
.
●
Existing
Subscriber ID
.
Wildcards are not valid in the subscriber ID entered here. If you are
creating a record for a subscriber ID that contains wildcards, substitute
real characters.
The display will show the entered information, plus the associated group name and
subscriber name.
When Changes Take Effect
When you add a new Group Name or Group Send record, the change is written to the
database when you enter the final parameter value. When you modify a parameter in
an existing record, the change is written to the database instantly.
The change will become effective the next time Group Send is used in a call. (The
change will not affect a call in progress.)
Placing a Call with Group Send
A Group Send call is placed by sending a Call Request packet with the Group Send ID
as a Called Address and identifier
0901
in the facility field. The Call Request is sent in
parallel to all members of the group. When all members have sent a Call Accept or
Call Clear, the message is sent. (A printed report lists those members who did not
accept the Call Request.)
The number of subscribers that can be assigned to a group is limited only by the
maximum number of simultaneous connections on a node (264 on N7400, 2000 on
N7500). Note the number of subscribers on a node, keeping in mind that if a subscriber
calls another subscriber on the same node, it is considered two connections. A safe
maximum is 131 subscribers in a group (264/2 minus 1). However, if all other
members are on a different node from the caller and no other calls are occurring on the
caller's node, there can be up to 263 members.
