Required and Optional Configuration
To run SNA on a port in an FRX8000 Switch or N7400/7500, make sure the following
are correctly configured in the database:

Network Defaults , described in Chapter 4. This file must be configured for a
new network. After that, no further changes are generally necessary.
●
Node parameters , described in Chapter 5. A record must exist for every
FRX8000, N7400, and N7500 on the network.
●
Line Processor , described in Chapter 6. A record must exist for every LP in
every node.
●
LAN card(s) that will connect to any attached LAN(s). See Chapter 6.
●
Trunk (Chapter 7) or frame relay (Chapter 8) port(s) that will connect to the
network and/or PVC(s).
●
SNA Port , described on page 11-4. A record must exist for every port on every
LP in every node. Each SNA port’s record will identify the port and define its
operating parameters.
●
Subscriber ID(s) , described on page 11-9, if SNA traffic will be transported over
the frame relay link via a logical X.25 port. This file assigns called and calling
addresses to ports, and defines alternate routing paths.
●
SDLC PUs , described on page 11-12. If the port is an HPAD, you must specify
any TPADs with which it will communicate. If the port is a TPAD, you must
specify any remote devices with which it will communicate.
●
LLC2 hosts (page 11-19) and interfaces (page 11-25), if the SDLC device(s)
will be connected to the node via a LAN, or if SDLC will be transported over
frame relay per RFC 1490.
●
Virtual LAN ID (page 11-19) – since an FRX8000 is seen to LLC2 as a virtual
LAN, an ID must be specified to identify the node to LLC2.
