Host Protocol Configuration
The host protocol is the protocol used by a host system to interrogate and control the VAR Router over the
RS232 communication port. This protocol follows a master/slave protocol, where the master is the host
computer, and the slave is the VAR Router.
The VAR Router has enables the user to configure some host protocol configuration options, such as:

Enable/Disable Host Routing Timeout.
•
Timeout in Minutes.
•
Enable/Disable Host Fault Timeout
•
Timeout in Seconds.
•
Enable/Disable Password Protection.
•
Enable/Disable Warning Message.
5.9.1 Routing
Timeout Configuration
The Host Protocol Routing Timeout is the time the VAR Router waits for a message from the host system
before clearing any routes that have been instigated by the host system.
Enabling this timeout provides a clear down mechanism so that if the host system fails it does not lock up the
PA system’s operation from other input sources.
In order to configure the host routing timeout proceed as follows.

2. Move to, and toggle to required routing timeout option in the left field:
[Enabled] Min: 1
•
Enabled
Any routes that have been instigated by the host system will be cleared when the timeout expires.
•
Disabled
Routes that have been instigated by the host system will not be cleared when the timeout expires.
Default value:
‘Enabled’
3. If ‘Enabled’, move to, and scroll the possible timeouts until the required value is displayed in the right
field:
Enabled [Min: 1]
Default value:
‘1’ minute
Possible values: 1 to 5 minutes
4. Press the SELECT key to proceed, or cancel by pressing the BACK key.
