ASL BMB01 Remote I/O Expander Configuration

The VAR Router is able to support the connection of up to 9 Remote I/O Expander units (BMB01).

These units extend the control and interfacing capability of the VAR Router by providing:

•

12 analogue inputs

•

12 opto-isolated digital inputs (contacts)

•

12 open collector digital outputs

Remote I/O Unit RS485 Bus Configuration

The VAR4 provides a single RS485 bus for connection of Remote I/O units. The VAR12 and 20 provide 2
and 3 such busses respectively. The remote I/O units can be connected to any of the RS485 busses.

If using a VAR12 or 20, in order to optimise response time, it is sensible to distribute them across the
alternative busses.

In order to configure a Remote I/O Unit on a RS485 bus proceed as follows.

3. Move to, and scroll the RS485 busses available until the required bus is displayed:

Bus-1

Connects the selected Remote I/O unit to the RS485 bus on the VAR Router base unit (VAR4,
VAR12 and VAR20 units).

Bus-2

Connects the selected Remote I/O unit to the RS485 bus on the expand unit 1 (VAR12 and VAR20
units).

•

Bus-3

Connects the selected Remote I/O unit to the RS485 bus on the expand unit 2 (VAR20 units).

Pressing the BACK cancels any changes, and returns to the parent menu.
