14.3
Configuring a Contact as an External Alarm Input
Any contact may be configured as an external fault input. An 18 character alphanumerical description is
assignable to a particular contact when configured as a fault input.
An active input to the port indicates a ‘no fault’ condition. An inactive input or open circuit on the port will
cause a fault to be reported and logged. The specific fault that is raised will be identified by the
alphanumerical description.
This is to enable external equipment, which provides normally closed relay contacts, to indicate healthy
status, to be integrated into the VAR Router fault annunciation and logging system. A typical example in a
VA system is the battery charger.
In order to configure a contact as an external fault input proceed as follows.

2. Move to, and scroll the contact list until the required contact is displayed in the left field:

Default value:
‘Contact#01’
Contact numbers: 01 to 22 for VAR4
01 to 42 for VAR12
01 to 62 for VAR20
Where contacts: 00 to 10 are analogue
11 to 62 are opto-isolated
3. For contacts 01 to 10 only, move to, and toggle to the required monitoring option:
Contact#01 Routing [Not-Surv]

Disables the analogue contact monitoring.

4. Move to, and scroll the operation options until the ‘External Fault’ option is displayed:

Other options available:

The contact is not connected.

The contact is used as the ‘Accept’ for a remote fault panel acting as a local fault accept button
