ALTERNATOR/STARTER CLUTCH
Remove the washer, needle bearing and w oodruff
key from the crankshaft.
NOTE:
• When removing the w oodruff key, be careful not
to damage the key groove and crankshaft.
• Do not lose the w oodruff key.
Remove the starter reduction gear and shaft.
INSPECTION
Check the starter reduction gear and shaft for wear
or damage.
STARTER DRIVEN GEAR/STARTER
CLUTCH REMOVAL
Remove the starter driven gear from the flywheel
w hile turning the driven gear clockwise.
FLYWHEEL
Check the operation of the one-way clutch by turn ­
ing the driven gear.
You should be able to turn the driven gear clock­
wise sm oothly, but the gear should not turn coun­
terclockwise.
