VALVE GUIDE REPLACEMENT
NOTE:
R efinish the v a lv e seats w h e n e v e r th e valve g uid es
a re replaced to p re v e n t u n e v e n s eating .
M a rk new v a lv e g u id e s at th e p ro p e r depth (see
specification b e lo w ) using a m a rke r.
Chill
new valve guides in a freezer fo r aDOut an
hour.
Using a torch to
H eat th e c y lin d e r h ead to 13 0 — 140°C (2 7 5 —
heat the cylinde r
290°F ) w ith a h ot p la te o r o v e n . Do n o t h e a t th e cyl-
head m ay cause
in d e r head b eyo n d 150°C (3 0 0 °F ). U s e te m p e ra tu re
warping,
in d ic a to r sticks, a v a ila b le fro m w e ld in g s u p p ly
s to res, to be su re th e c y lin d e r h ead is h eated to th e
p ro p e r te m p e ra tu re .
To a v o id burns, w e a r in su lated g lo v e s w h e n h a n
d lin g th e h eated c y lin d e r h ead.
