TECHNICAL FEATURE
CAM DAMPER/PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR
The cam dam per/prim ary drive gear installed on the crankshaft consists of the collar, lifter, spring (two pieces), holder, pri
mary drive gear and associated fasteners.
LIFTER
The lifter has three bosses that engage three grooves on the prim ary drive gear. The lifter and prim ary drive gear are
forced together by the pressure of springs located between the holder and lifter. The position is fixed by splines on the col
lar.
The cam dam per/prim ary drive gear reduces sympathetic vibration between the engine and HFT by absorbing torque fluc
tuations. For example, when the lifter rotation speed exceeds the speed of prim ary drive gear rotation when accelerating,
the springs w ill compress and the lifter w ill slip in the groove. This slippage dampens the sudden change of torque.
An anti-backlash gear is included on the prim ary drive gear to prevent gear noise caused by torque fluctuation during
acceleration/deceleration.
