ELECTRIC STARTER
TROUBLESHOOTING
Starter motor does not turn
1. Fuse Inspection
Check fo r b lo w n m ain fuse o r sub fuse.
Is th e fuse b lo w n ?
YES - Replace the fuse
NO - GO TO STEP 2.
2. Battery Inspection
Make sure the battery is fu lly charged and in good c o n d itio n (page 19-6).
Is th e b a tte ry in g o o d c o n d itio n ?
YES - GO TO STEP 3.
NO - Replace the battery
3. Starter Relay Switch Operation
Check the starter relay sw itch operation.
You should hear the relay "CLICK" w hen the starter sw itch b u tto n is depressed.
Is there a "CLICK"?
YES - GO TO STEP 4.
NO - GO TO STEP 5.
4. Starter M otor Inspection
A p p ly ba tte ry vo lta g e d ire c tly to the starter m o to r and check the operation.
Does the s ta rte r m o to r tu rn ?
YES - • Poorly connected starter m c to r cable
• Faulty starter relay sw itch (page 21-15)
NO - Faulty starter m o to r (page 21-61
5. Relay Coil Ground Lines Inspection
Disconnect the sta rte r relay sw itch connector, and check th e co n tin u ity between Green/red and
ground.
Is there c o n tin u ity ?
NO - • Faulty neutral sw itch (page 11-106)
• Faulty neutral sw itch relay (page 21-15)
• Faulty TCM (page 11-115)
• Loose o r p o o r contact connector
• Open c irc u it in w ire harness
YES - GO TO STEP 6.
6. Starter Relay Voltage Inspection
Connect the starter relay sw itch connector.
W ith the ig n itio n sw itch to ON and engine stop sw itch b utton " Q " and the starter sw itch button
pushed, m easure the v o lta g e at the starter relay sw itch connecto r (between Y ellow /red (+) and body
ground (-)).
Is there b a tte ry voltage?
NO - • Faulty ig n itio n sw itch (page 22-19)
• Faulty engine stop sw itch (page 22-21)
• Faulty starter sw itch (page 22-21)
• Loose o r p o o r contact connector
• Open c ircu it in w ire harness
YES - GO TO STEP 7.
