PROBLEM CODE INDICATIO N PATTERN
• The ABS indicator indicates the problem code by blinking a specified num ber of tim es.
The indicator has tw o types of blinkings, a long blink and short blink. The long blink lasts for 1.3 sec
onds, the short blink lasts for 0.3 seconds. W hen tw o long blinks occur, and three short blinks, that
problem code is 23 (two long blinks = 20 blinks, three short blinks = 3 blinks). Then, go to trouble
shooting and see problem code 23.
• W hen the ABS control unit stores som e problem codes, the ABS indicator shows the problem codes
in the order fro m the lowest num ber to highest num ber. For exam p le, w hen the indicator indicates
code 12, then indicates code 23, tw o failures have occurred.

NOTE:
• The problem code is not erased by turning the ignition switch to OFF w hile the problem code is being
output. Note that turning the ignition switch to O N again does not indicate the problem code. To
show the problem code again, repeat the problem code retrieval procedures from the beginning. Do
not apply the front or rear brake during retrieval.
• A fter diagnostic troubleshooting, erase the problem code(s) and p erform the pre-start self-diagnosis
to be sure that there is no problem in the ABS indicator (indicator is operating norm ally).
Rem ove the right front side cowl (page 3-5).
Disconnect the d u m m y connector from the ABS ser
vice check 3P connector.
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
• Short the w ire term inals of the ABS service
check 3P connector w ith a ju m p er w ire.
• U.S.A. procedure: Short the w ire term inals of
the ABS service check 3P connector w ith the
special tool.

1. Turn the ignition switch ON.

and determ ine the cause of the problem (page
18-8).
3. Turn the ignition switch OFF and rem ove the
jum per wire.
Connect the d u m m y connector to the ABS ser
vice check 3P connector.
Install the right front side cowl (page 3-14).
