BATTERY/CHARGING SYSTEM
CHARGING SYSTEM INSPECTION
CURRENT LEAKAGE TEST
Rem ove the pillion seat (page 3-4).
W ith the ignition switch turned OFF, disconnect the
negative (-) cable from the battery.
Connect the am m ete r (+) probe to th e negative (-)
cable and the am m ete r (-) probe to the battery (-)
term inal.
W ith the ignition switch turned OFF, check for cur
rent leakage.
NOTE:
• W hen m easuring current using a tester, set it to a
high range, and then bring the range down to an
appropriate level. Current flo w h igher than the
range selected m ay blow the fuse in the tester.
• W hile measuring current, do not turn the ignition
switch ON. A sudden surge of current m ay blow
the fuse in the tester.
SPECIFIED CURRENT LEAKAGE: 3 m A m axim um
If current leakage exceeds the specified value, a
shorted circuit is the probable cause.
Locate the short by disconnecting connections one
by one and m easuring the current.
NEGATIVE (-) CABLE: (+) PROBE
CHARGING VOLTAGE INSPECTION
Do not disconnect
the battery or any
cable in the
charging system
w ithout first
switching o ff the
ignition switch.
Failure to follow this
precaution can
damage the tester
or electrical
components.
NOTE:
M ake sure the battery is in good condition before
perform ing this test.
W a rm the engine to norm al operating tem perature.
Stop the engine, and rem ove the battery case cover.
Connect a tachom eter.
Connect the m u ltim eter betw een th e positive and
negative term inals of the battery.
NOTE:
To prevent a short, make absolutely certain which
are the positive and negative term in als or cable.
W ith the headlight on high beam , restart the engine.
M easure the voltage on the m u ltim e te r w hen the
engine runs at 5,000 m in '1 (rpm ).
STANDARD:
M easured BV < M easured C V < 15.5 V
• BV = Battery Voltage (page 19-6)
• CV = Charging Voltage
