Test Of The Propeller Balance
3.2.1
Start the engine, refer to AMM 12-B-71-00-00-00A-901A-A.
3.2.2
Set the Power Control Lever (PCL) to GROUND IDLE.
3.2.3
Push the TEST switch on the balancer/phazor and make sure the PHAZOR light at the 12 o'clock
position comes on. Release the TEST switch.
3.2.4
Adjust the RPM TUNE selector on the balancer/phazor until the counter shows the same Propeller
Operating Limits (Np) as the Primary Flight Display (PFD) unit divided by 10.
3.2.5
Make a note of the clock position of the phazor light that is on (VERIFY TUNE switch released).
3.2.6
Push and hold the VERIFY TUNE switch on the balancer/phazor.
3.2.7
Make a note of the clock position of the phazor light that is on.
3.2.8
Adjust the RPM TUNE selector until the phazor light in Step 3.2.7 is less than three lights from the
phazor light in Step 3.2.5.
3.2.9
Make a note of the position of the phazor light on the data sheet Chart B.
3.2.10
Make a note of the Indicated Propeller Speed (IPS) shown on the RPM TUNE gage on the data sheet
Chart B.
3.2.11
Release the VERIFY TUNE switch.
3.2.12
Move the PCL forward until the torque gage on the PFD shows approximately 35 psi.
Note
Use the 35 psi torque setting for all subsequent tests until the propeller is balanced.
3.2.13
Adjust the RPM TUNE selector on the balancer/phazor until the counter shows the same Np as the
PFD divided by 10.
3.2.14
Make a note of the clock position of the phazor light that is on (VERIFY TUNE switch released).
3.2.15
Push and hold the VERIFY TUNE switch on the balancer/phazor.
3.2.16
Make a note of the clock position of the phazor light that is on.
3.2.17
Adjust the RPM TUNE selector until the phazor light in Step 3.2.16 is less than three lights from the
phazor light in Step 3.2.14.
3.2.18
Make a note of the clock position of the phazor light on the data sheet Chart B.
3.2.19
Make a note of the IPS shown on the RPM TUNE gage on the data sheet Chart B.
3.2.20
Release the VERIFY TUNE switch.
3.2.21
Stop the engine, refer to AMM 12-B-71-00-00-00A-901A-A.
3.2.22
Compare the difference between the IPS indicated in Step 3.2.12 and Step 3.2.23.
3.2.23
If the difference between the IPS indications in Step 3.2.10 and Step 3.2.19 is more than 0.4 IPS,
remove the propeller, refer to AMM 12-B-61-10-01-00A-920B-A and send it to an overhaul facility for a
check of the blade angles.
