General Safety Precautions
Fuel and air mixtures are explosive. When work is done in an area where there is possibly a fuel and
air mixture do not use tools and equipment which can be a source of ignition. Examples of these tools
and equipment are:
−
Equipment operated by a combustion engine
−
Electrical tools and equipment
−
Battery operated equipment that is not approved for use in an explosive area
−
Matches and cigarette lighters
−
Nylon clothing
−
Footwear with nails or metal studs.
Obey these safety precautions when work is done on fuel systems:
1.1.1
Obey all local safety regulations.
1.1.2
Use only spark and explosion proof electrical equipment when work is done on the fuel system.
1.1.3
Operate a vapor remover at all times when work is done in the fuel tanks.
1.1.4
Approved personnel and fire extinguishing equipment must be available at all times.
1.1.5
Wear only anti-static clothing when work is done in a fuel tank.
1.1.6
Wear air-fed respirators in areas of high fuel-fume concentration.
1.1.7
When you work with or around the fuel quantity sensors and/or fuel wire harness, you must take care
not to damage the wire insulation.
1.2
Contamination Precautions
The engine fuel system is very sensitive to solid-particle contamination. Do not let unwanted material
go into the aircraft fuel system. Contamination of the fuel system can cause damage and corrosion
which can cause engine failure.
