Examine the bearings Figure 1 [15] and bearing cup Figure 1 [7] for corrosion and damage. Replace
the bearings and bearing cup if necessary.
2.13
Remove all remaining grease from axle Figure 1 [16] with the White spirit (Pt.No. P01-008) and
Absorbent paper (Pt.No. P02-031).

CAUTION
REFER TO THE IPD AND MAKE SURE THE CORRECT WHEEL PART NO. IS INSTALLED FOR
THE BRAKE UNIT PART NO. THAT IS INSTALLED ON THE AIRCRAFT. INSTALLATION OF
THE WRONG WHEEL WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO WHEEL AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY.
CAUTION
MAKE SURE THE LUGS ON THE WHEEL HUB CORRECTLY ENGAGE IN THE SIX CUT-OUTS
IN THE BRAKE DISCS (GREY SHADED AREA IN Fig. 1 VIEW B). IT IS POSSIBLE TO
INSTALL THE MAIN WHEEL WITHOUT THE LUGS ON THE WHEEL HUB ENGAGING THE
CUT-OUTS IN THE BRAKE DISCS. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY.
Installation
Note
It is not recommended to install left and right main wheels with different tire brands or types on the
aircraft. The performance of tire brands and types can be different.
3.1
Apply a thin layer of Grease (Pt.No. P04-031) to the mating surfaces of the bearings Figure 1 [15], the
bearing cup Figure 1 [7] and the axle Figure 1 [16].
3.2
Apply Grease (Pt.No. P04-031) to the bearings Figure 1 [15].
3.3
Install the bearings Figure 1 [15], dust seals Figure 1 [14], snap rings Figure 1 [13] and the wheel
Figure 1 [2] on the axle Figure 1 [16].
3.4
Install the nut Figure 1 [10] on the axle Figure 1 [16].
3.5
Release the parking brake.
3.6
Tighten the nut Figure 1 [10] to make sure the bearings Figure 1 [15] are correctly installed.
3.7
Loosen the nut Figure 1 [10] then tighten it until there is no play between the axle Figure 1 [16] and the
wheel Figure 1 [2]. Tighten the nut Figure 1 [10] to align it with the next lockbolt position.
3.8
For MSN 1001 - 1299, 1301 - 1450
Install the bolt Figure 1 [8], washers Figure 1 [9], nut Figure 1 [11] and new Cotter pin Figure 1 [12].
3.9
For MSN 1300, 1451 - 1719, 1721 - 1999
Install the bolt Figure 1 [8], washers Figure 1 [9], nut Figure 1 [11] and new Cotter pin Figure 1 [12].
3.10
Inflate the tire, refer to AMM 12-B-12-10-04-00A-902A-A.
3.11
Check wheel cover of cracks and corrosion. Check condition of the five grommets Figure 1 [6].
3.12
Install the wheel cover Figure 1 [3] as follows:
3.12.1
For Goodrich wheels
- install the wheel cover Figure 1 [3] onto the wheel Figure 1 [2] with the six
screws Figure 1 [4] and washers Figure 1 [5].
Note
are not installed on Goodrich wheel covers.
3.12.2
Torque tighten the screws Figure 1 [4]:

Pre BF Goodrich SL 1881, screw MS 35207 without shoulder
to 1,7 - 2,3 Nm (15 - 20 lb in)
−
Post BF Goodrich SL 1881, screw NAS 1298 with shoulder
to 5,6 - 6,8 Nm (50 - 60 lb in).
