Preparing Sodium Persulfate Solution
Caution: Wear eye protection
when preparing the sodium
persulfate solution.
for Spanish,
French, German, or Italian
translations.
Example: Prepare 20 liters of 0.4 molarity Sodium Persulfate (see
).
1.
Obtain a 20-L container with a lid that closes securely. Make sure that the
container is clean and has been flushed with distilled or DI water.
2.
Add 14 liters of DI water to the container.
3.
Slowly add 1900 g sodium persulfate (molecular weight: 238.10) to the
container. Add DI water to measure a total of 20 L.
Caution: Sodium persulfate is a
strong oxidizing agent. Do not
store it near strong reducing
agents. Wear eye protection and
wash your hands thoroughly after
handling sodium persulfate.
Scratching or touching your skin
before washing may cause skin
irritation.
for Spanish, French,
German, or Italian translations.
4.
Mix by shaking the container with the lid on until the sodium persulfate
has dissolved (approximately 3 to 5 minutes). The solution is ready to use
when it clears (approximately 30 minutes).
5.
Place the persulfate inlet tube into the container, making sure that
the tube reaches the bottom of the container. Only use the molarity
of persulfate specified in the table in
. High
molarities of persulfate will generate bubbles that may cause false
flow failure events.

Preparing the Cleaning Solution
When determining and preparing the cleaning solution, consider the following
two factors:
Caution: Wear goggles and
gloves when preparing the
cleaning solution.
for Spanish,
French, German, or Italian
translations.
•
The compounds present in the sample(s) being analyzed, and the
composition of chemical buildup, crystallization or biological matter
collecting in the flow channels. Verify the suitability of cleaning fluids for
wetted parts.
•
The materials in the analyzer that come in contact with the sample(s)
and cleaning solutions.
The analyzer components listed in
come in contact with the sample(s)
and cleaning solutions or any gases produced.
The cleaning solution and programmed cleaning interval should prevent
any build-up in the instrument. To establish an effective cleaning regiment,
perform the selected cleaning solution and interval for a trial period of
3–6 months.
