1.10 EPA Mode
The selection of the EPA application allows the analyzer to be operated
compliant with the requirements of the EPA regulation (Part IV- Environmental
Protection Agency/40 CFR Parts 9, 141 & 142). TOC
1
is TOC concentration in
mg/L of the incoming raw water source. TOC
2
is the TOC concentration in
mg/L of the processed (distributed) water. The removal percentage (REM%)
is calculated as follows:

is measured a period of at least the retention time earlier than
the measurement of TOC

. The TOC data points are retained at the time that
the analyzer goes offline. Only the last Stream 2 TOC value is recorded for the
REM% calculation, however the analyzer records a history of the Stream 1
TOC values.
The pass or fail criteria is based on the manually entered incoming water
alkalinity value and the analyzed incoming source water TOC concentration
(TOC
1
). A pass/fail can be determined and shown on the normal operating
screen according to the value of the required removal percentage. The
following table details how the pass/fail criteria is established from the entered
alkalinity (as mg/L C) and the two TOC readings.
