Character Entry
Entering characters
Procedures for entering characters in Phonebook
or mail is described below.

There are 2 methods for entering characters: 5-
touch input method and Slot input method.

The following font types can be entered: two-
byte characters (hiragana/kanji/katakana/
alphabetic characters/numbers/symbols/
pictograms) and one-byte characters (katakana/
alphabetic characters/numbers/symbols).
1 two-byte character, space or line feed is
counted as 2 one-byte characters. Voiced sound
and semi-voiced sound one-byte characters are
also counted as 1 character.

A total of 6,355 JIS level 1 and level 2 characters
can be entered.

Complex characters may be displayed in a
simplified form.
Character entry screen
There are 2 types of character entry methods: full-
screen entry mode and in-line entry mode.
I
Some entry fields may only be able to use one
character entry method.
I
When fixed phrases pasted or entered exceed the
allowable number of input characters, the
excessive characters will be deleted.
I
In this manual, "enter" means entering
characters and pressing
g
[OK].

Full-screen entry
Select the entry field to display the full-screen entry area.

In-line entry
Place the cursor on the entry field without
switching screens and enter characters directly.

For some of the entry field to enter date and
time or numbers, you can enter numbers by
selecting the entry field and pressing
j
.

This is displayed only when characters are entered in Slot
input method.

The submenus do not appear before characters
are set or on the decoration selection screen of
Deco-mail.
Changing input modes

On the character entry screen,

The input mode changes each time the key
is pressed as follows:

You can also press
h
to switch the input
mode.
・
Press
j
to switch input mode between
one-byte and two-byte.
・
One-byte numbers are not displayed in Slot
input method. In addition, switching
between one- and two-byte modes is
disabled.
