Data Communication
Flow of setup for data
communication
This section describes the setup work needed to
perform packet communication or 64K data
communication.
Communication configuration file (driver)
Install the communication configuration file on a
PC before connecting to PC to perform packet
communication or 64K data communication.
FOMA PC configuration software
When the FOMA PC configuration software (found
on the attached CD-ROM) is installed on the PC, a
number of settings required for packet
communication or 64K data communication can be
set from PC by simple operation.
Precautions for installation/uninstallation
I
For installing/uninstalling the drivers or the
FOMA PC configuration software, make sure that
a user with administrator's privilege performs
the operation. Installing/uninstalling the
software by other users produces an error. For
details on PC administrator privileges, contact
your PC manufacturer or Microsoft Corporation.
I
Before starting operation, make sure that no
other program is running. If there is any active
program, save and exit the program.
I
For operations of the PC, settings of
administrator privileges, etc., refer to the
Instructions Manual of the PC.

Glossary for data communication
I
APN (Access Point Name)
String to identify access points such as
provider to connect with by packet
communication. For example, the APN for
mopera U is "mopera.net".
I
cid (Context Identifier)
A number used to control dialup connection
(APN) for packet communication to be
registered in FOMA terminal. 10 numbers
from 1 to 10 are available for FOMA
terminal.
I
DNS (Domain Name System)
A system used to convert domain names
(example: nttdocomo.co.jp) to IP addresses
used on a PC.
I
OBEX (Object Exchange)
An international data communication
standard. Mobile phones, PCs, digital
cameras, printers, etc. that support OBEX
can exchange data with each other.
I
QoS (Quality of Service)
The quality of a provided service.
Technology ensuring that lines meet user
expectations during communication. The
transmission speed of a FOMA terminal can
be set.
I
W-TCP
A TCP parameter designed to fully utilize
TCP/IP transmission capacity during packet
communications in a FOMA network. This
communication setup is needed to enable
full use of the communication capability of
FOMA terminal.
I
Administrator privilege
A user level that provides complete access
to all operating system functions. There
must be at least one user that has
administrator privileges for each PC. A user
that has no administrator privileges is not
normally allowed to install/uninstall drivers
or software.
