Manual GEM Software Installation:
Introduction:
Normally, this manual loading procedure should not be needed. Updated GEM software
is normally automatically loaded from the 6DS-SP release disks. However, if version
4.29.1 was never installed, the GEM computer may not have Y2K compatible drivers
installed. The GEM INIT/UPGRADE Version 3.50 disk will install these drivers.
NOTE: The GEM INIT/UPGRADE Version 3.50 disk is not released with the
machine control software but can be requested from Strasbaugh if needed.
The following procedure describes this manual loading procedure.
Hook up the BOOTPC and GEMPC as shown.
The BOOTPC can be a laptop computer or can be the machine's control PC (MACHPC).
Note: During normal equipment operation the GEMPC uses COM4, not COM1, to talk to
the MACHPC.

Procedure:
All keyboard entries and screen displays will occur at the BOOTPC.
1) Power up BOOTPC and GEMPC.
2) Allow DOS to boot on the BOOTPC.
NOTE: Do Not Use a DOS Window to execute the following steps. If the
BOOTPC is running Windows it must be restarted in MS-DOS mode.
3) Insert the GEM INIT/UPGRADE disk into the floppy drive A: of the BOOTPC.
4) Type "A:<Enter>".
