Technical Description of GEM changes (for technicians) (continued):
The program’s sequence of events for changing one of these parameters:
1. The operator inputs the new setting.
2. The setting is tested against established limits. If outside the acceptable range the
request is rejected.
3. The Communications State is tested to ensure that SECS is disabled. If not
disabled the request is rejected.
4. If the above tests are successfully passed the request is passed on to the GEM
application, and a message is displayed informing the operator that the software is
“Re-configuring the Gem PC serial driver…”. The GEM application inserts the
new setting into the Gem140.Cfg file (this file contains the SECS parameters).
Then, depending on the PC type being used, the GEM application will either exit
with an exit code of “2” (in the case of the PC5), or the application will force a
reboot of the Gem PC (in the case of the Ziatech).
5. The batch file that controls the program flow of the Gem PC, GemPc.Bat,
interprets the exit code from the GEM application. In this scenario the batch file
causes the PC5 to jump the program flow back to the initialization of SECS driver
and restarts the GEM application. In the case of the ZT8904 the Gem PC will
simply be rebooted.
6. The GEM application is restarted, and once the communication between the Gem
PC and the Machine PC is established the prompt from Step 4 is cleared.
This change required updating the GEM application and the controlling batch file that
reside on the Gem PC, as well as the uploading of the reboot utility to the Gem PC. The
updated GEM application will be uploaded to the Gem PC in the normal automatic
manner when the 6DS-SP software is updated. Once running, the GEM application will
determine if it has the correct batch file installed. If the correct version is not found, the
GEM application will request the Machine PC to uploaded the new version of GemPc.Bat,
and the application ReBoot.Com. Once these files have been uploaded the Gem PC will
reboot itself.
