Release 2 (R2) signaling
A signal consisting of two frequency components, such that when a signal is
transmitted from a switch, another signal acknowledging the transmitted signal is
received by the switch. R2 designates signaling used in the United States and in
countries outside the United States.
multiplexer
A device used to combine a number of individual channels into a single common bit
stream for transmission.
multiplexing
A process whereby a transmission facility is divided into two or more channels, either
by splitting the frequency band into a number of narrower bands or by dividing the
transmission channel into successive time slots. See also
