The Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system primarily
communicates with internal and external subscribers via VoIP. Even though
the network-based and packet-transmitted VoIP is a modern and high-
performance technology, in many cases there is also the requirement to
employ conventional, line-connected TDM telephony.
A hardware unit of the Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system
offers (depending on version) the following TDM interfaces:
Starting from Release 9 of the system software it's also possible to use
Forum 550/560 communications systems as TDM gateways for the
Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system. These gateways have up
to 12 slots for interface cards. They allow you to connect a large number of
TDM terminals Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system. It's also
possible to operate TDM lines (ISDN and analogue lines) at the Forum 5004/
5008/5012 communications system. Refer to chapter

starting on page 73 for a description of this function.
System Architecture
The following graphic displays a hardware unit configured as a call server.
Two hardware units are connected via a network line or via LAN to this
hardware unit, configured as gateways. U

system telephones, for example,
can be connected to each hardware unit.
This system architecture is suitable for setting up an IP-based floorplan, for
example: in a multi-story building there is one hardware unit per floor. The
hardware units (call server and gateways) are connected to one another via
ethernet lines (LAN).
