Preparation for Operation
35
Preparing potassium peroxodisulfate aqueous solution [Reagent A]
Note
For potassium peroxodisulfate used here, be sure to use one for nitrogen and phosphorous
measurement.
Use of special grade is not permitted.
When dissolving the reagent, do not heat it (or else the reagent will self-decompose).
As reagent A cannot be used for a long term, replace it with new one within a month.
1.
Measure 15 g of potassium peroxodisulfate (for nitrogen and phosphorous
measurement).
2.
Pour approximately 800 mL of pure water into a container.
3.
Dissolve the above measured reagent completely in this container.
4.
Add pure water to make it a total of 1 L.
Preparing sodium hydroxide aqueous solution [Reagent B]
Note
For sodium hydroxide used here, be sure to use one for nitrogen measurement.
Use of special grade is not permitted.
1.
Measure 10 g of sodium hydroxide (for nitrogen analysis).
2.
Pour approximately 200 mL of pure water into a container.
3.
Gradually dissolve the above measured reagent in the container filled with pure
water.
4.
Add pure water to make it a total of 250 mL.
Preparing dilute sulfuric acid solution [Reagent C]
1.
Measure 60 mL of sulfuric acid (special grade: 96
or above) in a measuring cylinder.
2.
Measure 180 mL of pure water in a measuring cylinder and pour it into a heat-
resistant container.
3.
Slowly pour sulfuric acid into the container while agitating pure water (240 mL).
4.
Cool the reagent to room temperature.
WARNING
Wear protective goggles and gloves when preparing sodium hydroxide aqueous solution.
Dissolving the reagent generates heat and carbon dioxide.
• Dissolve the reagent in a well-ventilated area such as a draft chamber.
• When dissolving the reagent, cool the container with water or ice as necessary.
• If it comes in contact with your skin, rinse it off well with running water.
• If it gets in your eyes, rinse it off well with running water, and then immediately consult a doctor.
WARNING
Wear protective goggles and gloves when preparing sulfuric acid solution.
Dissolving the reagent generates heat.
• Dissolve the reagent in a well-ventilated area such as a draft chamber.
• Always pour sulfuric acid into pure water. Never pour pure water into sulfuric acid.
• When dissolving the reagent, cool the container with water or ice as necessary.
• If it comes in contact with your skin, rinse it off well with running water.
• If it gets in your eyes, rinse it off well with running water, and then immediately consult a doctor.
