Magnetic stripe encoder
Several different magnetic stripe encoders similar to the
one shown are available as options with ID-4000
systems. These devices embed data in an iron-oxide
stripe incorporated in the badge-laminating material. (To
encode magnetic stripes on your badges, you must use a
laminate that has a magnetic stripe.)
After embedding, the magnetic code can be read
(“decoded”) by standard magnetic stripe readers for
automated access control and other uses.
Some magnetic stripe encoders can also read magnetic
stripes for verifying codes or automatically entering the
coded data.
Turning the encoder
on and off
Before turning on the magnetic stripe encoder, make
sure the ID-4000 computer is off. Then turn on the encoder
according to the instructions provided with it.
Note: You can turn on the ID-4000 computer immediately
after you turn on the encoder.
When turning the ID-4000 system off, turn the computer
power switch to off
before turning the encoder off.
Encoding badges
Note: Before you encode a badge, diecut and
encapsulate it in a laminate incorporating a magnetic
stripe. (If necessary, see
Diecutting and laminating
instructions on page 7-29.)
The procedure below applies in general to most of the
magnetic stripe encoders available with the ID-4000. If
necessary, see the operating instructions provided with
the encoder for more complete information.
