•
Tighten the tool screw until fitted, and
then hit the tool head (where the upper
retainer works) with a mallet so that the
two cotters (1) get detached from the
upper retainer (2).
•
Once the two cotters (1) are detached,
screw these cotters until they can be
slid off the valve seats; unscrew the
tool and remove it from the head.
•
Slide off the upper cap (2).
•
Remove the inner spring (3).
•
Remove the outer spring (4).
•
Remove the lower cap (5) and if nec-
essary the shimming washers.
•
Remove the valve (6) from inside the
head.

Checking the rocker arms
Check for wear and the size of the pins and rockers; if the measures identified did not fall in the meas-
urements given in the drawings, they must be replaced.
Valve check
Make sure the springs are not deformed and have not lost the load.
Outer spring:
•
Released, it has a length of 54.5 mm (2.15 in).
•
With closed valve, it has a length of 36 mm (1.42 in) and must provide a load of 29.5 kg (65
lb) ± 3%.
•
With open valve, it has a length of 27 mm (1.06 in) and must provide a load of 45.5 kg (100
lb) ± 3%.
•
Packed, it has a length of 22.75 - 23.25 mm (0.897 - 0.915 in).
Inner spring:
•
Released, it has a length of 45 mm (1.77 in).
•
With closed valve, it has a length of 31 mm (1.22 in) and must provide a load of 16.7 kg
(36.8 lb) ± 3%.
