Check the amount of distortion of the wheel axle:
Turn the pin on a surface plate and check with a
feeler gauge the maximum value of the distortion

Service limit 100 mm (3.94 in): 0.2 mm
(0.0079 in)
WHEELS
Having established the good condition of the bear-
ings, it is necessary to verify the rim operating as
follows:
•
Visually check for any deformations,
ruts and cracks: if there are, replace
the rim;
•
Insert the pin into the wheel and place
it on two fixed matching parts;
•
Install a dial gauge supporting it in or-
der to detect the values of lateral devi-
ation and eccentricity of the wheel rim
relative to the axis of the pin.
CAUTION
The lateral deviation and actual eccentricity is half of the
total reading of the measuring instrument.
Standard values:
•
Lateral deviation: 0.5 mm (0.020 in)
•
Eccentricity: 0.8 mm (0.031 in)
•
Serviceability limit: 2 mm (0.079 in)
•
If the values do not fall within the limit it is nec-
essary to replace the rim.
