Flexible coupling caps on the clutch shaft
It does not require any verification, only check that the inner grooves are smooth.
Flexible coupling springs on the clutch shaft
Check that they are not deformed or have lost elasticity, otherwise replace them.
Sleeve with couplings on the clutch shaft
Check that the inner grooves are smooth and that the coupling surface has no excessive wear.
Transmission gear bearing on the clutch shaft
It shall not show excessive consumption or grain on the teeth. The contact surface of the teeth and the
inner grooves must be smooth, otherwise replace the gear.
Checking the forks
Check that the forks work area are well levelled and are not worn, so as to have lost the toughening
characteristics and that the nose-pieces operating in the drum splines are not excessively worn, oth-
erwise replace the forks.
Checking the gearbox
Gearbox and cover
The gearbox and the cover shall not show cracks in no point; the cover crankcase coupling surfaces
are not scored or damaged; the thread of the hub caps shall not be stripped.
Sealing rings
The seal rings, normally, if removed from their seats, they must be replaced, this is to be sure of their
perfect fit.
Ball and roller bearings
The bearings must be in perfect condition. The balls or rollers must be intact and smooth on their entire
surface.
Assembling the gearbox
After several checks, inspections and replacements, reassemble the gearbox operating as follows:
Fitting of bearings on the gearbox and on the cover
Warm up the gearbox and the cover before the fitting to a temperature of about 150 - 160 °C (302 - 320
°F)
As a first step carefully clean the seats and the bearing rings with solvent (trichlorethylene). Then with
a brush spread a thin layer of "Loctite" on the periphery of the outer ring of the bearing, in the seats of
the gearbox and cover, where the bearings have to be put.
Pay attention that the "Loctite" does not go between the balls or rollers of the bearings.
The bearings to be mounted with "Loctite" are the following:
- Bearing for clutch shaft on the housing.
