Steering bearing
•
The steering pin is supported on the
headstock of the frame with two ta-
pered roller bearings (2).
•
To determine the assembly clearance
of the bearings a nut (1) is screwed on
the steering pin. The control is required
every 20000 km (12427 mi).
Disassembling
•
Remove the steering yoke
•
Remove the fork, wheel, mudguard assembly;
•
Remove the upper steering bearing, the relative washers and dust gaiter from the steering
duct;
•
Remove the lower steering bearing using a suitable extractor;
Checking:
Before performing dimensional checks it is necessary to check the state of wear of the bearings; this
verification has to be done manually with the bearing mounted in its place.
•
Turn the inner ring in both directions: it must be able to rotate smoothly and quietly, without
jamming.
•
Then slide the inner ring out, constantly changing position, to check for clearance.
•
Remove and replace the bearings that do not rotate smoothly and quietly or show clearance.
EXCESSIVE WEAR CAN BE DUE TO VIBRATIONS AND INSTABILITY OF THE COMPONENT
Assembling
Carry out the disassembly operations in reverse order, taking into account the following:
•
When refitting the new bearings control the seat, it must be free of grooves or scratches.
•
Lubricate the seat before refitting the bearing, then push it into place.
•
Use a tube buffer to press only on the outer ring of the bearing up to its full introduction.
CAUTION
THE REMOVED BEARINGS SHOULD NOT BE REFITTED
