then tighten the screws (6) to the bot-

tom.

Crown - pinion coupling

To check the coupling of the pinion and the crown

spread the teeth of the pinion from the drive side,

with red lead based grease. Using an arm extrac-

tor and a spacer (7) keep the hub-crown unit slight-

ly forced into the cover; turn the pinion (8) by hand

in the direction of travel, keeping the crown dam-

ped with the tool. Remove the extractor, disas-

semble the cover and check the contact area on

the teeth of the pinion.

Contact impression check:

•

If the contact is regular, the mark on the

pinion teeth will be like on the picture

(the pinion is seen from the crankshaft

side)

•

If the contact is like in the picture, the

crown is too near the pinion rotation

axis: detach the crown by increasing

spacer thickness between box and

cover.

•

If the contact is like this, the pinion is

too near the rotation axis of the crown:

detach the pinion by reducing spacer

thickness between bearing and pinion.
