loops often are
difficult to di-
agnose and
cure. Experi-
ment patiently.
Keep ground
wires short,
make tight
connections,
and avoid
coated sur-
faces.
Light leak.
Follow directions above for detecting light
leaks.

Exit DataMax.

Turn off spectrometer.

Rearrange power connections so that spec-
trograph, source, and detector are connected
to the same ground (earth), and if possible,
the same power circuits.

Add redundant grounds (earths) to various
points in the system.
Improper grounding.
Consider a “star” ground (earth) of wires radiat-
ing from a single central location, e.g., a
grounded metal table surface under the system.
Electromagnetic interference
from lasers or other high-energy
apparatus
Construct a faraday cage or shield.
“Warning! Connect Failed
(7)” error message appears
CCD-3000 or 3500 controller is
off.
Exit DataMax, turn on CCD controller, and
restart DataMax.
