Basic System Hardware
The basic system hardware includes a system unit with
controls, indicators, and system connectors.
System Unit
The system unit, shown in Figure 1-2, includes the following:
One system module, which includes
One small computer system interface (SCSI) controller
Two serial line controllers
One ThickWire Ethernet controller
Sixteen slots for memory modules
Three expansion slots for TURBOchannel option
modules
One CPU module, which has a floating-point unit (FPU)
and cache memories
One to eight pairs of 2-Mbyte or 8-Mbyte memory modules
that connect to the system module
One power supply, which has three cooling fans
Space for up to three internal drives
A removable system unit cover and removable media drive
panel
One metal chassis that holds the system module, internal
drives, and power supply
