Removing and Installing an Option Module
Figure 5-19 shows how to remove and install an option module.
Caution:
Always follow antistatic procedures when handling option
modules.
How to remove an option module
1.
Turn off the workstation and remove the system unit cover.
2.
Disconnect any cables that are connected to the rear of the
option module.
3.
If the module is a ThickWire Ethernet option module,
gently pry the ThickWire Ethernet Station Address ROM
(ESAR) chip away from the module. Save the ESAR chip
for installation onto the new ThickWire option module.
Figure 5-20 shows how to remove the ESAR chip.
4.
Remove the screws that hold the option module to the
standoffs.

Remove the screws that hold the option module to the back
of the system unit.
6.
Grip the option module end near the expansion slot and
pull the option module out of the slot. If necessary, gently
rock the module to loosen it.
How to install an option module
1.
If the back of the system unit has a blank plate over the
opening for the option module connector, remove the two
screws and remove the plate.
2.
Pass the option module cable connector through the opening
on the back of the system unit.
3.
Firmly press the end of the option module that connects to
the system module into the expansion slot.
4.
Insert and tighten the screws that hold the module to the
back of the system unit.
5.
Insert the screws that hold the option module to the
standoffs.
