Using Blank Runs
A blank run (also called a blank analysis or background analysis), is an analysis of electrolyte
without sample material.
When analyzing low concentration samples, a background analysis is required for accurate results.
NOTE
Beckman Coulter recommends that you run a background (blank) analysis for every batch of
analyses that uses the same electrolyte.
Running a Blank Analysis
To run a blank analysis:
1.
Load the Standard Operating Procedure (page
) or Standard Operating Method (page
you will be using for the sample analysis.
NOTE
If you set automatic file name generation (page
), change the file name to indicate that the
run is blank, either before or after the analysis run.
2.
Prepare the Analyzer (page
).
3.
Fill a beaker with clean electrolyte and place the beaker on the sample platform.
4.
Select
Run > Start
on the Main Menu bar (or click
(
Start
)
in the Instrument Toolbar).
To save the blank analysis:
1.
Leave the blank analysis open in the Viewing Area.
2.
Select
RunFile > Save As
on the Run Menu bar.
3.
In the Save As dialog box, enter a file name for the background, and then select Save as read-
only.
4.
Click
(
Save
)
