7.3 Connecting to the Network 513
 Network access configuration can be done using one of two industry-stan-
dard methods; DHCP or Static IP Address assignment. With Static IP
Address assignment, the control's IP Address is defined explicitly and does
not change. With DHCP, the control's hostname is defined explicitly, and
the IP Address is obtained automatically and dynamically from a DHCP Ser-
ver on the network
DHCP For DHCP configuration, optionally change the value in the "Computer name"
field on the "Computer name" tab. On the Interfaces tab, select the active
interface (eth0) and press the "Configuration" key. In the "Configuring an inter-
face" window, ensure the Status -> "Interface active" checkbox is checked. On
the "Settings" tab, ensure that "Automatically procure…" is selected for all
three sections, IP address, DNS, and Default gateway. Press OK, then Apply,
and then accept the prompt to reboot the control.
Note
HEIDENHAIN recommends using DHCP to connect to a network when
possible. All HEIDENHAIN PC Tools support using the hostname instead
of the IP Address of the control. To connect to a network, you must obtain
the network information from your network administrator
