GENERAL  DESCRIPTION

Inform ation  in  this  portion  of  Section  IB   co v e rs   s e r v ic ­

ing  of  the  cab  and  panel  bodies  on  a ll  m odels  except  T ilt 

Cab  (T ),  Step  Van  (P )  v e h ic le s   which  are  covered   under 

th e ir  own  headings  elsew h ere  in  Section  IB .

S e rv ic e   w rite-u p s  which  fo llo w   may  be  applied  to  all 

rem aining  m odels  unless  oth erw ise  stated.

SERVICE  OPERATIONS

GENERAL  BODY  CONSTRUCTION

F igu re  1  is  a v ie w   of  a typ ica l  cab  showing  components 

in  position  on  the  cab.  F igu re  1  is   not  intended  to  ac­
cu ra tely  r e fle c t  the  a va ila b ility   of  s e r v ic e   rep a ir  parts. 
It  w ill  be  apparent upon  review in g  the  parts  catalog  which 

of  the  panels  shown  are  availab le  fo r   s e r v ic e   installation.

The  Truck  body  is  designed  to  p rovid e  a  strong,  fu lly 

w elded  unit  which  has  a u n iversa l  application  to  as  many 
m odel  types  as  possible;  thus  the  cab  used  on  the  Pickup 
is  also  used  on  h eavier  units  with  the  addition  of  variou s 

com binations  of  fron t  end  sheet  m etal,  ro c k e r  panel  ex­

tensions,  tran sm ission   c o v e rs   (flo o r   p lates),  etc.

BODY  M O U N T IN G

Body  mounting  is   b a sica lly   unchanged  fo r  1970.  Note

sequence  of  mounting  attachments  in  F igu res  2,  3  and  4.

BODY  SEALING

Cab  construction  details  showing  location  and  appli­

cation  of  sealin g  compound  and  undercoating  a re  shown 

in  F igu res  5,  6  and  7.  In  s e rv ic in g   com plete  panels  o r 
only  a  portion  of  a  p a rticu lar  section  it  must  be  com ­

p le te ly   sealed  to  the  panel  with  which  it  m ates.

Locating  Dust  and  W a te r  Leaks

A   quick  method  fo r   locating  many  a ir   and  w ater  leaks 

at  windshield,  backglass,  bolt  holes,  w eather stripping 
and  joints  is   as  follow s:

C lose  a ll  windows  and  vents,  turn  a ir  conditioning  o r 

heater  b low er  m otor  to  high  position  and  outside  a ir  and 

close  doors.  Run  w ater  o v e r  suspected  leak  area   in  a 

sm a ll  con trollab le  stream   and  observe  a re a   fo r   p r e s ­

sure  bubbles.

An  alternate  method  fo r   locating  leaks  is   as  follow s:
R em ove  the  fo llo w in g   trim   fro m   inside  the  cab.  F lo o r 

mats,  dash  and  toe  panel pad  and kick  pads.

Dust  leaks  w ill  be  evident  when  these  pads  and  mats 

a re   rem oved.  Leaks  can  be  located  som etim es  by putting 

a  brigh t  light  under  the  cab  o r  body,  while  checking  the 

in te r io r   of  the  cab  o r  body  at  join ts  and  weld  lines.
