design. Torque valu es must be used as sp ecified

this part.
Torque nut 250 lb. ft. and in s e rt new c o tter pin.

In sert threaded end o f lockpin through axle end fro m
fron t and tighten nut secu rely.
5. On 5000#-7000# m odels in sta ll kingpin dust caps with
new gaskets. On 9000#-11,000# m odels install in v e r­
ted expansion plug in lo w e r knuckle b ore and seat r e ­
taining ring. In stall upper dust cap with new gasket.
6. P la ce brake backing plate into position on steerin g
knuckle and in stall two upper locking plate to s te e r ­
ing knuckle retaining b olts. R a ise steerin g and tie
rod arm into position on back o f steerin g knuckle and
in stall two lo w e r backing p la te -to -s te e rin g knuckle
retaining bolts and nuts.
NOTE:
T h is backing plate to s teerin g knuckle
fa sten er is an im portant attaching p a rt in that it
could a ffe c t the p erform an ce of v ita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m ajor r e ­
p a ir expense. It must be rep laced with one o f the
sam e p art number o r with an equivalent p art if
replacem en t becom es n ecessa ry . Do not use a

7. In stall fron t hub and bearing assem b lies and adjust
as outlined under W heel B earin gs-A d ju st. In stall
fron t wheel and tire assem bly, and lo w e r ve h ic le .
8. Check fron t end alignm ent and steerin g stop s crew
and adjust w here n ecessary as outlined e a r lie r in
this section.
9. L o w er v e h icle on hoist.
I Beam
Removal
1. R aise veh icle on hoist and support at fram e to re a r
of spring r e a r bracket. Rem ove wheel and tir e
assem bly.
2. Disconnect shock absorb er lo w er mount fro m
bolt sp acer b racket o r spring seat bracket.

R em ove w heel hub and drum assem bly.
4 .
Rem ove brake backing plate and fasten to fra m e to
preven t damage to brake hose. See S teering K nuckle-
R em oval fo r rem o va l procedure. L e t s teerin g arm
tie rod and third arm hang attached to the drag link.
5. Support I-b ea m with flo o r jack. Rem ove spring
bolt nuts, lo w e r shock ab sorber brackets,
bolts and bolt sp acers.
6. L o w e r axle cen ter and rem ove fro m under veh icle.
Tape o r w ire cam ber shims to spring seats.
