CLUTCHES  AND  TRANSMISSIONS  7-51

1.  R em ove  bottom  pan  attaching  screw s,  pan,  a n d  

gasket.

2.  R em ove  o il  filt e r   reta in er  bolt,  o il  filt e r ,  intake  pipe 

assem b ly  and  intake  pipe  to  case  “ O ”   ring.  D isca rd  
the  o il  filt e r   and  pipe  to  case 

“ O”

  ring.

3.  In stall  new  “ O”   rin g  sea l  on  intake  pipe  and place 

pipe  assem bly  into  grom m et  on  new  f ilt e r   assem bly.

4.  W ith  “ O”  

rin g  on  intake  pipe,  in sta ll  pipe  and 

filt e r   assem b ly  into  case,  attaching  filt e r   to  control 
va lve  assem b ly  with  the  reta in er  bolt.

5.  Thoroughly  clean  bottom  pan.
6.  A ffix   new  gasket  to  bottom  pan  with  petroleu m   je lly .

7.  In stall  bottom  pan  with  attaching  s c rew s  and  torque 

to  sp ecification s.

8.  If  only  the  pan  has  been  rem oved,  pour  approxim ately 

7-1/2  pints  (U.S.  m easure,  6-1/4  pints  Im p e ria l 
m easu re)  of  flu id   into  the  transm ission. 

If  the 

v a lv e   body  has  also  been  rem oved   use  9-1/2  pints 

(U.S.  m easure,  8  pints  Im p e ria l  m easu re).  A fte r   a 
com plete  overhaul  approxim ately  19  pints  (U.S.  m ea­
su re,  15-3/4  pints  Im p e ria l  m easu re)  are  requ ired. 
Be  sure  container,  spout,  o r  funnel  is   clean.

9.  Start  engine  and  le t  id le  (ca rb u reto r  o ff  fast  id le 

step).  P la c e   s e le c to r   le v e r   in  P   position  (N  position 
on  30  S e rie s   Tru ck s)  and  apply  hand brake.

10.  W ith  tran sm ission   w arm   (ap p roxim ately  180°F.),  add 

flu id  to  bring  le v e l  to fu ll  m ark  on  indicator.

W ith  tran sm ission   at  room   tem peratu re  (approx.  70°F.)

add  flu id   to  b rin g  le v e l  to  1/4  inch  below   add  m ark.

CA U TIO N : 

Do  not  o v e r fill.  Foam ing w ill  result. 

PRESSURE  REGULATOR  VALVE

Removal

1.  R em ove  bottom  pan  and filt e r .
2.  C om press  regu la to r  boost  va lv e   bushing  against 

p ressu re  regu la to r  sprin g  and  rem o ve  snap  ring, 
using  J-5403  p lie rs .

3„  R em ove  regu la tor  boost  v a lv e   bushing  and  va lve.

4.  R em ove  p ressu re  regu la to r  spring.

5.  R em ove  regu lator  va lve,  spring  r e t a i n e r ,   and 

s p a c e r(s )  if  present.

Installation

Installation  of  the  p ressu re  regu la tor  va lv e   is  the  r e ­

v e r s e   of  the  rem oval.

Adjust  o il  le v e l.

CONTROL  VALVE  BODY

Removal

1.  R em ove  bottom  pan  and  filt e r .

2.  Disconnect  lead  w ire   fro m   p ressu re  switch assem bly.

3.  R em ove  control  v a lv e   body  attaching  s c rew s  and  de­

tent  r o lle r   spring  assem bly.

NOTE: 

D o  

n o t  

re m o v e  

solen oid 

attaching 

screw s.

4.  R em ove  con trol  va lv e   body  assem bly  and  g o vern or 

pipes.  If  ca re   is  taken  in  rem ovin g  con trol  va lve 
body  the  s ix   (6)  check  b a lls  w ill  stay  in p lace  above 
the  sp a cer  plate.

C A U TIO N : 

Do  not  drop  manual  va lve.

5.  R em ove  the  govern or  pipes  and  manual  v a lv e   fro m  

con trol  va lv e   body.

In s ta lla tio n

Installation  of  the  control  va lve  body  is  the  r e v e r s e   of 

the  rem oval.

NOTE: 

If  d ifficu lty  is   encountered  when  re m o v ­

ing  the  g o vern or  assem bly,  it  m ay be  n ecessa ry 
to  rem ove  the  o il  pan  and  withdraw  g o vern o r 

p ipes  (approxim ately  1/8")  to  fr e e   govern or 

assem bly.

R e m o v a l

1.  R em ove  g o vern or  c o v e r  attaching  screw s,  c o ver, 

and  gasket.

2.  D isca rd   gasket.

3.  W ithdraw  g o vern or  assem bly  fro m   case.

In s ta lla tio n

Installation  of  the  g o vern o r  assem bly  is  the  r e v e r s e   of 

the  rem oval.  Use  a  new  gasket  under  the  govern or  c o v e r. 

Adjust  o il  le v e l.

M O DULATOR  A N D   M O D U LA TO R   VALVE

 

R e m o v a l

1.  R em ove  modulator  assem bly  attaching  s c re w   and 

retain er.

2.  R em ove  m odulator  assem bly  fro m   case.  D isca rd  

“ 0 ”   rin g  seal.

3.  R em ove  m odulator  va lve  fro m   case.

In s ta lla tio n

Installation  of  the  m odulator  assem bly  and  m odulator 

v a lv e   is   the  r e v e r s e   of  the  rem oval.  Use  a  new 

“ O”  

rin g 

s e a l  on  the  m odulator  assem bly.

Adjust  o il  le v e l.

PARKING  L IN K A G E -1 0 ,  2 0   SERIES

 

R e m o v a l

1.  R em ove  bottom  pan  and  o il  filt e r .
2.  Unthread  jam   nut  holding  detent  le v e r   to  manual 

shaft.

3.  R em ove  manual  shaft  retaining pin  fro m   case.

4.  R em ove  manual  shaft  and  jam   nut  fro m   case.

NOTE: 

Do  not  rem ove  manual  shaft  sea l  unless 

replacem en t  is  requ ired.

5.  R em ove  parking  actuator  rod  and  detent  l e v e r  

assem bly.

6.  R em ove  parking  pawl  bracket  attaching  screw s  and 

bracket.

7.  R em ove  parking pawl  return  spring.

NOTE: 

The  fo llo w in g  steps  should  not  be  com ­

pleted  unless  part  replacem ent  is   requ ired .

8.  R em ove  parking  pawl  shaft  retain er.
9.  R em ove  parking  pawl  shaft,  cup  plug  parking  pawl 

shaft,  and parking pawl.

In s ta lla tio n

Installation  of  the  parking  linkage  is   the  r e v e r s e   of  the 

rem ova l.  Use  new  seal  and  cup  plug,  if  rem oved,  and  new 

bottom  pan  gasket.
