COMPONENT PARTS REPLACEMENT
Shock Absorber
Replacement
1. R aise veh icle on hoist.
2. If equipped with a ir lift shock absorber bleed a ir out
o f lines. D isconnect line from shock absorber.
3. R em ove shock a bsorber pivot bolt nuts and washers;
pull bolts and rem ove fro m veh icle.
4. P o sitio n eye at la rg e end o f shock absorber in fram e
bracket o r cro ssm em b er
install bolt, washer and
nut. If equipped with a ir lift shocks, install shock
ab sorb er with the a ir fittin g pointed rearw ard.
5. A lig n opposite end o f shock absorber with anchor
bracket at axle, install bolt, w asher and nut.
6. Tighten nuts to specification s.
7. If equipped with a ir lift shock ab sorb ers, inflate to
10-15 lbs. minimum a ir p ressu re.
8. L o w e r veh icle and rem ove fro m hoist.
Tie Rod (Series C -P 10 and C 20 )
Removal
1. R aise veh icle on hoist.
2. Rem ove nuts and bolts from each end o f rod and r e
move rod fro m veh icle.
Installation
NOTE:
A ll tie rod attachments a re im portant
attaching parts in that they could a ffect the p e r
form ance o f vita l components and s y s t e m s ,
and/or could resu lt in m ajor re p a ir expense.
They must be replaced with parts o f the same
part numbers o r with equivalent parts i f r e
placem ent b ecom es n ecessary. Do not use r e
placem ent p arts o f le s s e r quality o r substitute
design. Torque values must be used as sp ecified
during rea ssem b ly to assure p ro p er retention of
these parts.
1. Check rod fo r deform ation by sighting down its length
o r by using straight edge. M inor defects may be r e
moved by bending. A badly rod, how ever, should be
replaced.
2. Bushings should be replaced i f any abnorm al condi
tions exists, such as looseness, damage to o r s w e ll
ing o f rubber parts o r general wear.
3. L o w er veh icle and rem ove from hoist.
Bushing
Replacement
1. Position end o f rod on a suitable tube-type support as
shown in Figu re 1.
2. P r e s s bushing fro m rod, using T o o l J-7079-2.
3. P osition new bushing o v e r rod eye.
4. Using T o o l J-8518 on S e rie s C -P10 o r T o o l J-7574-6
on S eries C20, place tool on bushing and p re s s bush
ing into rod eye until tool contacts rod.
